"Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a severe and neglected threat to maternal and child health. Many women with GDM experience pregnancy-related complications including high blood pressure, large birth weight babies and obstructed labour.
-
Gestational diabetes is associated with multiple adverse pregnancy outcomes. Women with gestational diabetes are at subsequent high risk of type 2 diabetes, especially three to six years after delivery.
-
Exposure to hyperglycemia in the womb predisposes children to a high risk of becoming overweight or obese, associated with the development of type 2 diabetes.
-
The prevalence of high blood glucose (hyperglycemia) in pregnancy increases rapidly with age and is highest in women over the age of 45.
-
In 2019, 20 million or 16% of live births had some form of hyperglycemia in pregnancy. An estimated 84% were due to gestational diabetes.
-
1 in 6 births was affected by gestational diabetes.
It is important for women with diabetes in pregnancy or GDM to carefully control and monitor their blood glucose levels to reduce the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes with the support of their healthcare provider."

Endocrine Sarcodes Meet Up Q&A Wednesday July 29, 10am ET / 7am PT (30 minutes) |
|
Join Karen Allen CCH, and others who are studying the endocrine course materials, for a casual half hour meeting to chat about questions, cases and ideas.
Also joining us will be our UK colleagues who are completing the course as a fundraiser for the Traveling Homeopaths Collective, a UK nonprofit that provides homeopathic first aid at music festivals in England.
Gather your questions and case examples, mark it on your calendar, and join the meeting at the scheduled time, using the link on your Subscriber Resources Home page. You will see it there in the events for the week!

We are reviewing submitted survey responses
(from 23% of paid subscribers and 7% of all HUB participants).
You told us that:
-
Most people learn about the HUB through a friend or colleague
-
HUB access is mostly computer based from home (0-3 hours per week).
-
The HUB’s fewer mobile users do spend more time on the HUB (3-6 hrs/wk)
-
Three biggest factors in choosing to subscribe to the HUB: (1) Topics of training available (2) Teachers who present (3) Training Library to Stream on Demand with 400+ hours of classes and 100+ hours of ACHENA CEU classes
-
Least important of the HUB’s offerings in this survey: social events, advocacy donations
Thanks for your helpful suggestions for a better HUB experience.
We are looking at ways to implement these for you!
