Interestingly, Kent included many symptoms in subtle variations in topic as well as structure and arrangement. Instead of lumping them into a single rubric, he included rubrics at stages of progression through a continuum. For example, Mind, Ennui describes someone who is not finding any joy in life. Mind, Loathing of life describes someone in a more pathological state – not only is this person not finding joy, but there is also a negative attitude toward life itself. Mind, Death desires finds the pathology further progressed, and Mind, Suicidal disposition is even further advanced with the intention to take one’s own life. Watch this video as Karen explains these continuums of rubrics in the repertory:

Try out one of the Rubric Finding Exercises:

  • You will need to be logged in (free registered or any subscribed account will work) in order to take this rubric finding exercise.
  • For some of these rubrics, several options are possible; choose one. Just one.
  • Use full correct notation for the rubric you enter: Section, Rubric, subrubric, etc just as it would be printed in a professional journal about a case, such as Mind, Impatience, heat, with
  • Please pay attention to spelling and commas. Please do not enter a period at the end of the rubric, or after words like ‘etc’ or ‘amel’ or ‘agg’. Our tech has limited ‘fuzzy matching’ capacity, so you need to enter the rubric accurately.
  • Different repertories may have slightly different phrasing, or put things in somewhat different arrangements. Even Kent’s repertory has several versions (Kent’s…. Kunzli’s….) and other later repertories have been built on it. You might enter a perfectly valid rubric from your repertory, and yet, it will not exactly match the expected response that we have predicted from Kent’s repertory. We understand this can be annoying; please bear with us as we work with the realities at hand.
  • All correct answers will be shown after you complete the exercise.
  • You will need to complete 70% of the exercise items accurately before you are ready to progress to the next exercise.

“This is my favorite class on the HUB!  Sure I take other classes, but every week in a short 30 minutes I learn something about case taking or pathology or materia medica or a differential process – all through the guise of a repertory example case.”
