Are You Confidently Using Homeopathy
with Adjuncts for Best Client Outcomes?

OPEN CLASS FOR EVERYONE IN OUR COMMUNITY:
Share this with your Study Group or Colleagues

Monday April 24th, 7pm ET  /  4pm PT  (45 min)

Chronic care is our every day bread and butter in practice!  We use it first and foremost. And sometimes we can also offer the client additional support while the action of the homeopathic unfolds. This can increase the client's confidence in the therapeutic process with us, bring relief, supply nurture and nourishment, and help the client wait while the chronic remedy acts upon the vital foce.

Wait a minute….. What EXACTLY is an Adjunct?

Adjuncts are interventions that support the client. Technically, the dictionary definition offers us this:  "a supplementary addtion, rather than an essential part."  This is a great way for us to consider adjucts: options in our tool kit. They are add-ons that can provide short term help while the long term realignments that homeopathy can make are in progress. They are not required. They are not the end goal. They do not replace the value of a well matched remedy. Let's not pretend that they are the mainstay of our practice! And let's acknowledge that they can help the client during the healing journey with some short term support!

What's the Point?  WHY Use Adjuncts?

If we have given a well matched homeopathic, why bother with adjuncts?? Won't the remedy just take care of everything? This is a great question. It depends on the case. A well matched homeopathic will shift the disruption on the level of the vital force, initiating healing. Sometimes the disease process has been in play for months, years and decades. The repair and resolution can take time. In the mean time, the client may be in pain, or depletion, or confusion, or disruption in a way that can benefit from local support. Here is what can happen with an adjunct:

  • Buy time for the client to wait for the response to the remedy – the client may be impatient, and an adjunct can be used to add a "quick win"  and buy time for the client to wait with the process
  • Relieve the discomfort of an "And also…"  – the client may have a clear and intense long term complaint that rightly draws the focus of the case. Another bothersome – but – not – serious side complaint, that does not appear to be aligned with the main thrust of the case, could be relieved with an adjunct, and reduce the overall burden on the vital force
  • Nourish the client while the vital force is in repair – the client may be depleted in a way that requires a top up, and this can respond quickly to an adjunct
  • Give the client a daily "DO Something"  – some clients are uncomfortable with the idea of a "single dose and wait" posology, not quite able to imagine that one tiny dose could be impactful for weeks or months. Even something as simple as daily breathing exercises can help the client engage with the therapeutic process

EXAMPLES of Commonly Used Adjuncts

There is SO MUCH to learn in homeopathic school that most of us did not get much training there in the use of adjuncts. We may even have been told NOT to suggest any of these to clients in case it "confuses the case" or makes it hard for us to tell if the homeopathic plan acted. And we may not have learned how and when to include them safely.  Frequently used adjuncts include Bach Flower formulas, cell salts, gemmotherapy, organ support remedies, vitamins, mineral supplements, herbal balms, nutraceuticals, stretches, breathing exercises.  Here are some specific examples:

  • Bach Flower Rescue remedy (5 drops, hourly) for an anxious client who has just been laid off from his job
  • Urtica urens mother tincture (5 drops in water daily) for a client with extensive history of gout and visible tophi nodules on hands and feet
  • Vitamin D3 ( 4,000iu daily) for a client trying to conceive, whose labs show that her vitamin D levels are low
  • Ferrum phos 6x cell salts (3 tabs, 3 times daily) for a perimenopausal client with heavy menstrual bleeding and anemia
  • Hedge Maple gemmotherapy (30 drops in water 3 times daily) and L-lysine essential amino (500mg daily) for a newly divorced client, in her first intmate relationship since single, who has just been diagnosed with genital herpes
  • Calendula oil (topic application twice daily) for C-section incision that is still a little tender and slightly red on one side 9 weeks after the birth
  • Carduus marianus 5x (3 pellets daily) for a client with indications of liver weakness, portal vein congestion and history of troublesome hemorrhoids

Join Karen Allen, CCH for this class, where she will present simple and easy-to-apply guidelines on WHY, WHEN and HOW to integrate adjuncts with new clients. Using 2 actual case examples, she will present the chronic remedy chosen, the adjuncts suggested, with the reasoning behind each. Then she will describe how to evaluate the response when the client comes back, and review the results. There will be time for Q&A.  After this 45 minute session, you will know enough to get started including adjuncts where they can be most beneficial for your clients.

Let's match your skills and availability
to people looking for a practitioner!

As the HUB builds a community of consumers who are learning homeopathy and other home self care, we are sure that some of those people will be looking for a practitioner. Let's help them easily find capable, well trained homeopaths on the HUB! We begin with US & Canada subscribers, where credentialing / legalities are familiar to us and our legal advisor. Later we will expand, prioritizing countries by their subscriber presence on the HUB, and work through the list to include as many as possible.

Click through the 'Learn about…' link on your subscriber home page the next time you log in to the HUB. You will see the same directory image you see above. Available to HUB subscribers who meet eligibility criteria and choose to opt in – a standard directory entry is included in your paid subscription.
